Sales halls and shopping centers
Prefabricated commercial and retail halls are predominantly designed as single-storey buildings, with an emphasis on customer comfort. These stores or shopping centers often need to attract customers with their appearance, featuring a representative entrance that guides customers into the retail space. These halls often have flat roofs, known as attics.
Main Advantages of Prefabricated Retail Halls and Shopping Centers
- Speed of construction and the associated cost compared to traditional masonry buildings
- Possibility of interesting architectural solutions
- High variability in cladding – both in color and choice or combination of materials
- Excellent thermal properties of the buildings with low operating costs
Construction of Retail Halls and Shopping Centers
The structure of commercial and prefabricated retail halls is designed with an emphasis on minimizing columns and maximizing usable space. The structure is usually designed with higher fire resistance and is adapted to the appearance of the stores or retail halls. Most of these structures have a minimal roof slope thanks to the attic. Bracing is minimalistic and must not interfere with the retail area, which is why a fixed-frame structure is chosen. For large retail spaces, a concrete structure is used; for smaller ones, a steel structure is common, and combinations of concrete columns and steel structures in the roof plane are also often seen. The advantage of steel structures is their high architectural variability when designing unconventional elements.
Insulation of Commercial and Retail Halls
The cladding of the buildings is often designed from more aesthetically pleasing materials, usually a combination of panels, Alubond, and less frequently trapezoidal sheet metal, mostly as an architectural feature. For cladding, emphasis is placed on the thermal properties of the envelope in combination with fire resistance. Mineral sandwich panels for walls are often used.
On the roof, exclusively layered types of cladding are used, i.e., trapezoidal sheet metal, thermal insulation, and waterproofing – membrane.
Glazing and Daylighting
Glazing in shopping centers and retail halls is again designed with a focus on aesthetics, but in the retail areas themselves, these are usually spaces without natural light. The front sections are made of system glass facades so that the shop or store attracts customers with the services or products it offers. The sales areas of larger stores are then illuminated by skylights, or, as mentioned, are not illuminated at all. Entrance areas are often equipped with automatic doors with an air curtain. Sometimes – due to heat loss – two sets of doors are installed in succession.
Price of Retail Halls and Shopping Centers
