Framed steel structures
Advantages of Frame Steel Structures
The main advantage of frame structures is their variability, ranging from smaller halls to large-span halls such as gymnasiums, tennis or sports halls. Frame structures consist of columns and beams, which are most often welded from rolled profiles such as IPE, HEA, and HEB. The main elements are complemented by various structural components and especially structural joints. The frame structure must be supplemented with secondary steel elements; on the roof, purlins of the METSEC system are usually used, while for the walls, lighter steel structures made from box sections or UPE profiles, or the aforementioned METSEC system, are used.
Advantages of frame structures:
- Minimal moment effects on the foundation structures, which allows for significant optimization of foundation dimensions
- Large clear height, making it possible to fully utilize the space under the roof plane across the entire area of the hall
- Versatile use for halls with spans from 6m up to 40m
- Variable modulation of the distance between individual frames according to the investor’s needs, from 4 to 9m
- Possibility of extending the hall in the future
- Economical construction thanks to the speed of assembly
This type of structure is used especially for buildings with larger spans. A suitable example can be tennis halls.
