Agricultural halls and buildings
Agricultural halls and buildings are characterized by their low demands on execution. The halls provide space for storing various agricultural commodities such as grain, hay, straw, or simply for winterizing agricultural machinery outside the season, or the halls are built as service workshops for agricultural equipment. Other possible uses include stables, riding arenas, or even milking parlors. Prefabricated halls have countless uses in the processing industry, such as dairy and food production. A separate chapter are silos, which are increasingly used by farmers for storing commodities and subsequent sale during the year, thus obtaining more financial resources from the harvest.
Main advantages of prefabricated agricultural halls
- Speed of construction and the associated price compared to traditional masonry buildings
- Simple covering of areas with an uninsulated cladding
- Easy maintenance
- Possibility to use the warehouses for bulk commodities such as grain
- Low costs for the foundation of buildings compared to traditional structures
- Emphasis is not placed on design but on functionality
Construction of agricultural halls
The construction of agricultural buildings is specific according to their use. Stables have larger spans and will be uninsulated gable-roofed. On the other hand, storage for machinery or harvest will be of medium size, usually up to 20 m wide, of the frame type. Cattle stables such as for cows, sheep, etc., will be wider, up to 36 m, but will have central supports, possibly even three. All constructions in agriculture have no requirements for fire resistance and are made of steel structures.
Insulation of agricultural halls
Cladding of agricultural buildings and halls is usually uninsulated. For stables, a PIR sandwich panel is used on the roof to prevent livestock from overheating in summer. For storage, this panel is used on the roof to prevent condensation and dripping onto stored commodities, which is undesirable.
The following are used for roofing agricultural halls:
- Roof sandwich panel up to a maximum thickness of 60 mm
- Roof trapezoidal sheet with textile fleece, which prevents condensation of water vapor
- Roof trapezoidal sheet for less demanding buildings
For the walls:
- Trapezoidal sheet metal
- Fabrics for stables
- Daylighting with fiberglass laminate
Surfaces in agricultural halls
Surfaces in agriculture are made of steel fiber-reinforced concrete floor types of various thicknesses with a hardener, which prevents dusting. For stables, high-strength ceramic tiles are used.
